05/22/2012 - Stop Metro Tunnel Under High School

The MTA (Metro) is threatening to tunnel under Beverly Hills High School. Such an action would make it nearly impossible for the District to make any future improvements to the campus and the adverse working and learning conditions on staff and students could be substantial. The District has successfully challenged MTA's scientific claims and has won the right to a hearing on the matter. By signing the petition below, BHEA members can help protect the things that matter most in our district: the academic interests of the students, the health and safety of employees and students, and the financial resources of the District.

Nowhere else in California does a subway run directly under a permanent school building. MTA has other options for running the subway through Beverly Hills; however, our one High School has nowhere else to go. Recent accidents by Metro make this proposal even more intolerable, as evidenced by problems associated with their work under Hollywood Blvd. See "SINKHOLE SWALLOWING HOLLYWOOD BLVD" by accessing the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZM9v7QNURE

Please sign the following petition and let Metro know that tunneling under the High School is irresponsible in every way. Let them know that this distraction is taking valuable resources away from the classrooms where it is needed the most.
